Turizem v Idriji splošnoTourism in Idrija in general

Town: Idrija is a very popular tourist destination in Slovenia. It attracts mainly with the heritage of Idrian lace and the mercury mine. It is visited by more and more Slovenian and foreign tourists as it has been developing greatly over the past few years. Lots of old houses in the city centre have been renovated, a new town square by the architect Boris Podrecca has been erected which offers a spectacular view at the Gewerkenegg castle. New art galleries have opened their doors and new museum collections have been created. St.Anthony Shaft  and Technical museum in the castle are among the most popular touristic sights. The Idrian lace on the other hand is also gaining worldwide acceptance as it is highly appreciated by more and more fashion designers. There is a fairly new and very interesting city aquarium in the city centre that offers the largest collection of exotic fish species in Slovenia. In the year 2012 Idrija, together with the Spanish mercury mine Almaden, became enlisted on the Unesco list of natural and cultural world heritage.

Nature: The location of the town itself in the depth of the basin is unique and attractive for the tourists. Idrija with its surroundings is a geologically unique area and that is why Idrija has been trying to establish a Geopark. A few of the mine connected sights (Klavže) are situated in the beautiful Upper Idrijca Park where a very popular natural swimming area is also found that is packed with visitors seeking the coolness in the hot summer days. Not mentioning  the Vojskarska plateau would be a mistake as it excites with its natural beauty every visitor that sets foot on it.
